The Medicated Weight Loss Service can help you achieve a sustained and healthy weight loss, with ongoing advice and support alongside a prescription medication treatment. This medication works to decrease your appetite and therefore reduce your food intake, which used in conjunction with a calorie-controlled diet and increased exercise has been shown to aid weight loss.

We want to help you stay well, from managing your prescriptions to supporting you in healthy lifestyle choices. One of the ways we can all be proactive in managing our health, is to eat well, get enough exercise and maintain a healthy weight. This is because an unhealthy lifestyle can lead to a number of health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease.

You’re eligible for the Medicated Weight Loss Service if:

  • You are aged 18 to 75
  • You have a BMI of over 30
  • Or a BMI of over 27 but have been diagnosed with a condition that is made worse by weight gain such as a heart condition

Our Medicated Weight Loss Service is available online. 

As part of your first consultation you will receive:

  • One months’ worth of medication
  • A welcome pack including healthy lifestyle support tips and tools to keep 
  • Accessories needed to administer the service such as needles and sharps bin 

At 12 weeks you’ll have a progress evaluation. 

There are certain people that can’t use our Weight Loss Service due to the active ingredient used in the medication.

You’re not eligible for the Medicated Weight Loss Service if:

  • You are under 18 years of age
  • You are over 75 years of age
  • You are hypersensitive to liraglutide (3mg) or any of the other ingredients of the medicine
  • You are pregnant, think that you might be pregnant or planning to have a baby
  • You are breastfeeding
  • You are currently on treatment with GLP1-RA e.g. Victoza
  • You have an initial BMI of 27-30 and don’t have a weight-related health condition
  • You have an initial BMI of less than 27 unless you already use the medication or wish to transfer your treatment 

If you have any of the following medical conditions, you’re not eligible for this service:

  • Hepatic impairment (liver)
  • Renal impairment (kidney)
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Obesity secondary to endocrinological
  • An eating disorder
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Diabetic gastroparesis
  • A history of pancreatitis
  • Thyroid disease 

The weight loss medication used in the Medicated Weight Loss Service helps to increase the feeling of fullness, decreases hunger and therefore reducing food intake. Patients taking the medication reported feeling more satisfied after eating and eating less than before they were prescribed the medication.

All medications may cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. 

The most common side effects of the medication are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, and vomiting. These side effects usually go away after a few days or weeks.

If the Medicated Weight Loss Service isn’t quite right for you there are plenty of other ways you can maintain a healthy weight. Alongside exercise and a balanced diet, we have a range of weight loss products that you can buy over the counter both in your local pharmacy and online. Simply ask your pharmacist for recommendations if you’re in store or browse our weight loss range online which includes meal replacements, diet pills and supplements, shakes and more.

You can also use our Online Doctor service for weight loss treatments, such as Wegovy® or Mounjaro®. One of our clinical team can check your suitability for weight loss pills or injections to make sure they’re the right option for you.
